Taupō Waterfront
OVERVIEW
The Taupō waterfront is an iconic public space where thousands of locals and visitors spend time walking, eating, working and relaxing every year.
The goal for this project was to redesign this area to make it more pedestrian-friendly and better connect the town centre with the lake and Tongariro Domain while also redirecting the traffic around the back of the city centre.
Assisting Boffa Miskell, our mission was to enhance the urban landscape while ensuring optimal integration with the existing infrastructure.

CHALLENGES
Crafting the perfect lighting design required overcoming several challenges due to the diverse areas within the project that demanded specific consideration. The main ones are:
A single-lane roadway that needs to be lit to PR3 standards.
A path/cycleway along the waterfront that needs to meet PP3 standards.
The artistic illumination of Pou Whenua sculptures with RGBW lighting.
Pedestrian pathways that need lower lighting levels.
We worked closely with WE-EF to determine the ideal approach and finalise luminaire specifications.
RESULTS
Despite tight timelines, the project was successfully delivered. This was achieved through meticulous planning and coordination, ensuring a seamless execution from design to implementation.
The result is a welcoming, multi-functional public space with the Pou Whenua sculptures, brought to life with RGBW lighting, creating a visual highlight.

All luminaires are DALI-compliant. A uniform 3000K colour temperature was maintained, except for RGBW lighting on the feature Pou Whenua sculptures. A round aesthetic for all luminaires was preferred, contributing to a cohesive visual appeal.
